Who is Nomuzi – Moozlie
Nomuzi Mabena is a South African television personality and hip hop artist best known for winning the 2012 MTV Base VJ Search ahead of Naledi Radebe and now famed IsiBaya actress Nomzamo Mbatha. Prior to the 2012 MTV Base VJ Search she was the losing finalist in the SABC 1 Live Presenter Search which was won by Luthando Shosha and top six finalist on the SABC 1’s Media Career Guide Presenter Search.
Nomuzi Mabena was born in the town of Benoni in the East Rand in Johannesburg in the Gauteng province of South Africa.
She has an older sister, this is according to an interview she did with Zalebs titled ‘Nomuzi: Hail the queen of the Skhanda movement’ where she was quoted saying “My sister has always been my day one fan, from driving me to modelling class to where I am now. I love her to bits, she’s incredible.”
Nomuzi Mabena was raised in Benoni in the East Rand presumably by both her parents as she has previously been quoted saying, “My parents have always been very supportive. I know they don’t often understand everything but they always make an effort to find out what’s going on and show support. Every time I go home and turn on the TV it’s on MTV Base which I think is cute.”
She attended St Dunstans College situated in the suburb of Rynfield in the town Benoni in the East Rand, Johannesburg in the Gauteng province.
Nomuzi Mabena attended that school from the age of three up to grade 12.
Upon matriculating from St Dunstans College she enrolled at Varsity College in Sandton City, Johannesburg where she studied Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies.
While in at St Dunstans she entered and won Mr and Miss St Dunstans, “I think the reason why I won that competition was because I was just the loudest and craziest person at that school and it got people to vote for me,” as quoted in an interview with Get It.
As part of her prize for winning the pageant she received two months worth of modelling classes with a Benoni based Rampage Modeling Agency, “It turned out that I really enjoyed modeling so I stuck with it,” she told Get It magazine in the same interview.
According to an article published on Get It magazine website Nomuzi Mabena entered and contested Miss Benoni on three separate occasions.
In the 2010 edition of the same pageant she was crowned Miss Benoni.
At the beginning on 2012 Nomuzi Mabena entered the presenter search for the SABC 1 educational programme, the Media Career Guide, which at the time was hosted by the then relatively new Boitumelo Thulo and made it all the way to the top six but was unsuccessful.
Around the same period she also enter the presenter search for another SABC 1 programme, Live [today’s Live Amp] which at the time was hosted by Bonang Matheba, and lost to eventual winner Luthando Shosha who herself had previously lost to Minnie Dlamini.
